Much more than a ship. A story of sea and passion.
Lanzarote Traditional Sailing was born from the desire to offer something authentic:
A journey through time, aboard one of the oldest boats in Spain, in one of the most special places in the Canary Islands: the south of Lanzarote.
More than an excursion, it is a way of understanding the sea, the wind and life on board with calm, respect and admiration for the classic.
The ship and its legacy
The Ora et Labora is a classic sailing yacht built in 1888 at the J. Behrens shipyard (Finkenwerder, Germany). With a length of more than 20 meters and traditional gaff ketch rigging, she was conceived for fishing in the North Sea, and has survived more than a century of history.
Throughout the years she has carried various names and uses, among them Kormoran as a motor trawler. In the 1980s it was extensively restored in Germany, giving it back its original appearance and navigation. Later it passed through private hands and ended up at auction, where it was acquired to preserve it and give it a new life in the Canary Islands.
Today she proudly sails from Lanzarote, fully operational and in excellent condition, offering sustainable nautical experiences that combine the value of maritime heritage with the pleasure of sailing. Each departure is an invitation to rediscover the sea with calm, authenticity and respect for tradition.
The Ora et Labora is much more than a century-old sailing ship: it is a living testimony to European maritime history and an example of how traditional sailing can continue to excite in the present day.
The person behind: Justin
The sea is in Justin's blood.
Since he was a child, he used to watch the sailboats in La Graciosa waiting for the trade winds to cross the Atlantic to the Caribbean and dreamed of crossing oceans. He did it: he was the first Canary Islander to cross the Atlantic solo, and has worked as a professional diver in underwater works.
In 2017 he had this sailboat in his hands for the first time. He couldn't keep it then, but years later, fate put it back in his path. Today he sails it and shares it with those who are looking for more than just sun and beach: they are looking for connection, history and authenticity.
Our commitment
Every outing we do is a way to celebrate traditional sailing, local produce and the simple beauty of Lanzarote from the sea.
